The Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 VC Di II lens is the successful addition of Vibration Compensation (VC) to an already impressive lens. Provides wide aperture, razor-sharp performance with surprising compactness. NB. This lens is designed for digital SLRs with APS-C sensors only.

Vibration Compensation
Features a tri-axial (3-plane) mechanism that mechanically compensates for any camera shake. For a wide aperture lens such as this, a bulky stabilisation mechanism would generally add greatly to its size. Not here though, as Tamron have successfully applied their most sophisticated technology to keep things compact.

Top Quality Optical Performance
The SP 17-50mm lens features the following to maximise optical performance and reduce bulk.

• XR (Extra Refractive Index) glass which allows smaller dimensions yet with improved correction of aberrations
• Three compound aspheric elements for further space efficiency to give consistent sharpness
• Two LD (Low Dispersion) elements which act to reduce chromatic aberrations and improve colour fidelity.
• Reduced peripheral falloff giving better edge-to-edge illumination, especially in wide angle photos.

BBAR Coating (Broad Band Anti-Reflection)
This multi-layer coating is designed to give maximum light transmission of all visible wavelengths while minimising internal reflections which can cause ghosting and flare. To reinforce this, all cemented surfaces are coated too plus a tailored petal lens hood is supplied as standard.

Close Focus
A close focusing distance of 11.4" (29cm) is possible throughout the entire zoom range. At the 50mm end, this equates to a magnification ratio of 1:4.8 .

Zoom Lock
This feature locks the zoom barrel in place so that for example when your camera is being carried with the lens facing downwards, your lens won't extend of its own accord.
