The Canon PowerShot G15 updates the popular PowerShot G12 camera with even better quality and useability. It features a lightweight but robust aluminium body which is 17% smaller than G12 and also has an optical viewfinder, f/1.8 lens and Full HD movies as well as full manual control and Canon’s excellent HS (High Speed) System.
Extra Bright Zoom Optics
The 5x zoom lens on the G15 has a wide maximum aperture of f/1.8-2.8, making it extra-bright even at long focal lengths. The 5x optical zoom range covers a useful equivalent of a 28-140mm focal length as found in 35mm cameras. The lens uses high refractive index glass with multiple material coating designed to handle different wavelengths of light which gives amazing sharpness and colour accuracy at all focal lengths.
Canon HS System
The Canon HS System (High Speed) enables images to be captured with exceptionally low noise even in low light. This is made possible by the combination of Canon’s DIGIC 5 processor and a newly developed 1/1.7-type high sensitivity CMOS image sensor. You can stretch sensitivity to ISO 12,800 for fast continuous shooting even in poor lighting and be confident of low noise levels.
The Image Stabiliser manages to stretch shooting by 4-stops as light fades or at long zoom settings. This is accomplished by using both optical IS and intelligently choosing from 7 configurations.
The G15 features improved AF speed of just 0.17seconds which is 53% better than on the G12. This makes it the fastest focusing of any Canon compact camera made, as of September 2012.
Full HD Movies
The Full HD movie mode on this model records in 1080p quality at 24 frames per second with stereo sound. You can also use optical zoom and autofocus while recording.
Choice of Viewing
You can either frame your shots on the optical viewfinder or on the 3.0” PureColor II G LCD screen which has 920,000 dot resolution with a wide viewing angle and a tempered glass layer for enhanced visibility and strength.
The G15 has full and priority mode manual control ie. You can set aperture, shutter, white balance and ISO sensitivity yourself. For highest quality and ease of editing there is RAW recording and a choice of several aspect ratios.
Although there are manual modes on the G15, there is also a Smart Auto mode which chooses setup according to 58 variables and can even recognise friends and family in a frame to give the best possible image quality.

- Full resolution 10fps High Speed Bust HQ mode
